Removing plastic trim from tank?

I have a standard 29G tank and was wondering if it was possible to remove the top plastic bracing and replace with a glass eurobrace? Could the same be done to the bottom with a 2" eurobrace along the bottom?

provided you brace it as you mention the tank will be fine...the bottom will be tricky though as you should likely remove the entire inner seal, otherwise the bottom eurobrace wont sit or seal properly to the sides of the tank...the whole point of the lower eurobrace is to essentially thicken the bottom pane of glass to provide more bonding area for the sides...the top is pretty simple though, remove plastic clean and brace...

hey nanoreef, im another ontario reefer , so if i understand correctly, the tank would have to be almost resealed for the bottom eurobrace to be installed?

Yes a complete reseal is pretty much mandatory. Not a huge deal, however, for it to be effective, the glass must be thoroughly cleaned of all residue, which a rather cumbersome chore. In most cases it is best not to mess with the bottom trim.

Thats what I would do. Top eurobrace and bottom plastic trim.

Can you eurobrace a bowfront tank? I have an Oceanic 90g bowfront and the top plastic brace is very large and I think it would block a lot of light so would like to remove it. Ideally I would like to just remove the center brace, replace with glass, and leave the rest of the top plastic trim in place. Anyone have any experience with this?

It can be done, but would need the services of a high end glass fabrication shop, to get the curve right. Think CNC, think Techni. Replacing the top support with an equivalent glass brace is doable also, but still requires a matched curve, and you would have to pull the top trim to install it properly.

Just paint the bottom trim white so it pretty much blends with the sand
