Just got the otopus skimmer with sicce pump. How the hell do i remove the impeller to do the mesh mod, there is a plastic piece on the top that just wont move and i cant remove it from the bottom

Oops! Just realized I should have posted Reef Specialty, not Aquarium Specialty. Sorry about that.

Yeah that thread is talking about removing the pinwheel from the impeller.

The pinwheel part is inside another plastic thing, i cant get it out.

I'm not sure but are there some screws on the front half of the pump? If so you may have to remove the screws to take the volute off the pump to acess the pinwheel! Can you take a photo of the pump and post it? Then I'll know for sure.

Here are the pictures, i need to remove that pinwheel, i dont think i can get it from below

The pinwheel is inside this plastic thing i cant freaking open

Just running in some RO/DI water lightly salted. I do that for a few days on new skimmers.

Looks like you need to turn the gray front of the volute until the tabs line up with the slots in the rear volute and then the front volute should pop off. See if it can be turned the gray piece by the tab shown by your finger in the last photo. It shouldn't take too much force and I could be wrong so don't "force it".

those 2 parts are not seperate, i tried my hardest to turn without using a tool, if i use something its starting to dig into the plastic

That pinwheel is mean to come off, they even sent me mesh mod with the skimmer direct from factory, the instructions tell me evertything exept how to remove the dam pinwheel

Don't use a tool! I'm sure it went together that way but it may be glued or the tabs may "pop" into those slots shown in your 3rd picture when it is turned after initial assembly. There's probably a way, but without seeing it first-hand, I'm out of ideas. Sorry.

Like Dave said you need to twist, turn the grey piece until the tabs line up with the slots so you can remove the grey piece. Then you can get to the Impellar to remove It.

The grey piece is not turning, in the third picture u can see it sittin in slots, its not moving a inch, i tried as hard as i could

The grey piece did turn, just not with my hands lol

Had to use the rubber grips of some pliers to get the thing moving. Its actually very easy to turn now with my hands, it was just really hard the first time.

Great Success, did the Purple pinwheel with mesh mod on the Impeller aswell.

 :bounce3:

Not making any dirty foam yet. But thanks to all you guys at reef central and reef specialty, got this lil bad boy working at full speed
