removing zoas

I have some "long-stem" brown/orange zoas that are spreading too much, and I want to reduce them or remove them completely. They've spread over multiple rocks that can't be removed from the tank. Can I cut and pull them off where they're attached to the rock without harming the tank? Below is an old pic to show the type of zoas I'm talking about. Thanks!

Nice zoa's..

Take a razor blade and scrape under the mat and peel them off. I would run some carbon during this and wear some gloves. They can be pretty toxic..

Thanks for the reply. Am I going to run into problems if I accidentally tear/cut off one of the stalks? Is it possible to kill other tank inhabitants by messing with these? Has anyone had a similar past experience?

I fragged zoos that were a little browner than that last week, and noone had any problems with them dieing. I just cut them at the base of their stalk rather than at the mat or anything, but then again, they didn't have an entirely noticable mat.

You're fine, just run a little carbon and you'll be ok. Also, for some reason in my experience, when you cut zoa'a, they seem to grow back faster..
