rena microbubbles Help!!!!

Ok, So I just moved my 75 gallon to its new place, and the rena(X3), is constantly pushing out microbubbles. Anyone have problems with this, and have suggestions. Its must be positional, since it never did it before(2 years), but I cant figure it out. Please help.

Did you clean it completely , "like new". I once cleaned a skimmer so well it had to be broken in again.....


Worst case scenario use a dress sock over the tube that ejects water into the sump. I have done this for 6 months. It is held on with a rubber band and completly eliminates micro bubbles. I always rinse it several times in water as hot as I can touch to insure there is nothing in it. I also only use socks that are new and havent seen laundry detergent. The guy that showed me this trick pulls socks out of his dressar drawer that have been through the wash with no ill effects. I just dont like the idea of that. Also it will not work with a tube sock or sports sock. It has to be a dress sock.

Mine pumps out a surge of bubbles every once in a while, but not constantly so I don't worry too much. Re check all your seals and o-rings to see if that will help. Don't forget the cap on the output tube for priming the line, that seems to have a pretty hokey gasket/seal. Whenever I give the canister a shake, it will also produce a bubble surge, so some of the oxygen/gas is probably produced or trapped in there until it builds up enough to escape or the canister is disturbed by a shake. What are you running inside the canister? I only have a bag of carbon in there, the baskets are totally empty otherwise.

Please explain what you mean. I ahve had it running for 2 years, but needed to disassemble it when I moved. Are you saying it will eventually "blow" all the air out of the filter?

I have been looking into replacing the o-ring, but have checked all the other seals, and they are tight. Mine used to do the same, where it would pump out bubble surges every few weeks, but it was only once. Mine is now doing it every 20-30 min. I have filled the canister up to overflowing when I put the lid on, and it still shoots bubbles. Not sure if the o-ring in the motor is able to suck in air.

Actually every 20-30 min for a surge of bubbles is about what mine does and I replaced the main canister seal about a year ago. Maybe have another look at the main seal for the canister lid, I think it has ridges on it, not a round o-ring. If this seal is twisted a little, this could cause some air to seep into the canister. Since you totally disassembled it for the move, it may well take some time for it to settle down again. I suppose it depends on what you mean by disassembled too. How often do you open it up for cleaning and is that typically the same level of disassembly as for the move?
