Repair scratch in glass

So I finally picked up my tank, and I dont know if it was the LFS or my 4 year old son, but there is a scratch right in the front about 6 inches long.......its not very deep at all, and is fairy faint, so I was just wondering if anyone knows how to repair something like this? Also, if it cant be repaired, do you think it will be THAT noticable? The scratch is on the outside of the tank.....

Is it a RR tank? I used to have a tank with huge scratch right there in front. So I turned the tank around. I know you can't if it's RR.

You may be able to get it "repaired" but IME the way the fix it is just a patch so a crack doesn't run more and instead of being a scratch it's like a white line. There may be people with better experience though. YMMV

What is RR? Its a megaflow, so turning it around isnt gonna happen. Also the scratch is pretty faint, but still noticable. And its not a crack, so Im not worried in that department......

RRis reef ready. Megaflows == RR. The reason I said crack is because any winsheild repair place can come out to your house and "fix" the scratch (usually the do it for cracks or chips in windshields). But it may look worse than before. Call some of them up and see what they say. Ask if it will be a clear finish or if it will be visible.

Going to throw this out there -- I haven't tried it but my Dad always used to get minor scratches out of glass with toothpaste.

toothpaste works but try clear finger nail polish it works great just make sure you put just enough in and let it dry fully

For the poor mans solution i'd also recommend trying wood polish. My dad used to use that .. Pledge? stuff to take scratches out of his glasses

OK...toothpaste..no...pledge, no. Neither seemd to make any difference at all. I cant feel the scratch at all, the only way I can SLIGHTLY feel it is if I run my finger nail across it.....so Im gonna try one of those glass repair kits....Ill post my results.

Most often, there's really no practical way to make a scratched glass tank look much better. A buffer could remove the scratch, but it'd add distortion since the glass would be curved. In practice, I'd suggest living with the scratch.
