Repair small glass crack with resin?

Hi all,
While cleaning my tank I found a small vertical hair line crack on the back of the tank. It is in the middle of the tank not touching the sides and about 2 inches. There are no water leaks and I can only feel it on the outside. My question is can I repair it with the resin stuff (i.e. auto glass windshield repair kits)?

So far it has not spread but I would like to stop it from getting larger. Would that resin stuff work or should I just use silicon?

BTW it is a all glass oceanic 110g tank.

Any advice would be appreciated.

No, a glass crack needs to be stop drilled to prevent further cracking. a car windshield works because it's 3 layers of glass/plastic/glass and you're just hiding the crack not repairing it.

I'd advise you to get a new glass installed or risk 110g of water in the floor, not a pretty site. if you should choose another option silicone a glass patch over the crack, a good 3 or 4 inches around all sides of the crack.

I am a newb so what does stop drill mean?

Also for clarification I only want to stop the crack from getting larger, I do not care to hide or repair it. Right now it is out of sight and I want to keep it that way. Sorry for the "repair" confusion.

Still don't matter, if the tank were to burst or something like that, then it would go into effect, but even then there are limitations on if they will fix it or not.

stop drilling is when you drill a small hole at the end of the crack, that prevents the crack from 'growing', it's the only way to prevent the crack from getting longer or fingering out.

Yes Oceanic has a warranty but they require that the tank be on Their stand and then they are a PITA about how it was setup.

Looks like a hairline crack but I uploaded a picture of it on my gallery. I had to crop it abit to fit on the gallery. I took the picture from the back of the tank. Please take a look

The return pipe is to the left and the reef ready overflow is to the right. The reason I think it is a crack is because the lines are jagged.

Would siliconing the spot stop it from getting longer?

Yes it looks like a scratch, i would try to see if it is on both sides the glass (all the way threw), than i would worry.

How would one tell the difference? Since I am inexperienced it looked like a crack with the jagged lines vs all the swirly scratches that I have seen before. I am paranoid that it will leak can you point me to a link that will assist me in spotting the difference.

you can try and look through the glass at as much of an angle as you can and a scratch isn't much more then surface deep. to me it looks like something was dragged down the tank and scratched it.

Run your finger nail on the inside and outside of the aquarium where the questioned area is. If you can feel a groove in the same spot on both sides its a crack.

stress cracks from bowing aren't always through the entire glass, you can have a stress crack on just one side.

I looked at it from all angles and it is only on the outside. I can not feel the crack/scratch on the other side. I guess I will will label it as a scratch for now and see if it grows over the weeks. This makes me wish I bought an acrylic tank instead.
