Most of the key info on the T5 thread has been condensed into a quick website by Grim and his buddies. I followed Grims recommendation and was very happy with the look and growth.
tfivetesting
I have been doing a lot of reading on this also for my 4 bulb fixture. I have read multiple people say that 2 Blue Plus and 1 GE 6500K are a good base and then either a Actinic white or Fiji purple for the 4th bulb dependent on what you want. I think that I am going to go with the Fiji purple based on a picture I saw. It looked bluish, but not all blue and the coral color popped.
i have three fixtures 1- 48" compact flour. and 2- 48" 4 bulb t5 fixtures how would you set those up on a 72" tank and what is the best bulb selection since i'm fixing to have to replace some of the bulbs that are older. all three fixtures are front to back and centered on the tank which leaves me about 12" on each side that don't have straight down light. ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYONE
I have seen people stagger the lights so that front one is center, second fixture is far left and third is far right, this should help blend and give less dark spots and leave you an brighter area in the center. coral placement is an issue as well, if you dont want to redo the rocks you may want to over lap over your sps and let that guide you. If you tried to sell those fixtures plus added some cash you could do a t5 retro that would give you good blending by staggering 60 inchers. I think Wayne did this on his old tank. Lamp wise I would go with 2 ati blue plus, 1 blue plus special, 1 fiji purple (per T5 fixture). The CP fixture is expensive to run lamp wise but if you need to stick with it I'd go with the sunpaq dual actinics in the front and the 10k/460's or the 10k in the back depending how much white you would like centered and in front of the aquarium. This is just a suggestion. Personally I'd start looking at how much I could get for those fixtures and exploring retrofit options.
Your already looking at $336-$460 to replace all those lamps as it is! and then another 100-200 to replace those CP Lamps again before the T5's need replacing.
