Replacing existing sump

Dear All: I am upgrading my sump and have some concerns. When I unhook everything, especially the hoses that attach to the bottom of the tank, how do I stop the water from draining out of the tank through the hoses? Do I have to empty my tank first? Or do I just close the valves and turn off the return pump?

You don't need to drain the whole tank, instead remove all the water from your overflow box(es) by turning return pump off and taking up one of the standpipes.

If you have to unhook pipes or change bulkheads just keep some towels or a bucket underneath them as you will get some drips.

inside the overflow box you should have a pvc return standpipe and a pvc overflow standpipe, if you lift one of them out with the return pump off it will allow the water in the overflow to drain into the sump, and then you can unhook pipes underneath

I am no expert on this but you need to turn off your return pump and close the valves and there should be no water coming from the tank once you close the valves. Hopefully someone with a lot of experience with this can chime in.
