Replumbing a running tank

I need to cut out the plumbing to my sump and install new. What is the best PVC cement to use? How long should I let it sit before letting the sump run again?

Only thing in the sump currently is an old wet/dry, bioballs removed. Mechanical filtration. And water running through a UV steralizer that is not running and being removed. I have 2 1500 gph Koralia powerheads and roughly 100 lbs live rock in tank. Only live stock is a CUC that is doing fine. Tank has been running for 7 weeks. Fully cycled.

Thanks!

I use Oatley PVC primer and there cement. I have replumbed certain sections and after an hour I turned it back on never an issue. To be safe you could wait 24 hours your powerheads will keep the water oxygenated for 24 hours no problems

I would give it a few hours. Any pvc glue and primer are fine. I would highly suggest getting the clear primer 1 it looks alot cleaner 2 since the tank is set up if you drop even a little you will have a permanent purple spot. The purple is only there so a home inspector knows that primer was used. It dries very quick. By the time you get to the next fitting it's already not gonna move. They will stay wet for a few hours not fully cured. I have made a few single connections and used it right away and had no issues but would be more concerned with a whole system being done

Thanks for the replies. That's exactly what I needed. I will probably replumb and let it sit overnight just for extreme caution. I didn't want to make a stupid mistake after waiting 7 weeks on a cycle and just now staring at snails.

If your dealing with wet pipes they make a rain or shine pvc glue. IMO pvc is a fast acting solvent and should be good to go fairly quick. According to Oatey, 15mins for handling strength and 2 hrs for a full cure, I see no reason to let it sit overnight.

PS,if your dealing with any ABS (black) fittings DO NOT use primer in those areas.
