Replumbing an active tank.

I have read a lot of ideas on plumbing since I set up my tank that I'd like to implement. What are the thoughts on replumbing an active tank? I figure I just need to have my plumbing put together to avoid too much downtime. Just drain the overflow and install? Is it that easy? Any advice?

Yes its that easy..
Depending on whats in the sump now a system can run indefinitely without a sump so you have plenty of time to get it all setup/let glue dry,etc...

If there is anything living/algae,etc.. in the sump then keep a powerhead running to maintain circulation.. If not perfect time to give it a good cleaning too..

We replaced the main bottom bulkheads in our tank, no problem. Downflow box is doublewalled (ours is, at least!) to prevent accidental draindown, so just drain, dry, reset. Just be very careful if installing a new bulkhead: a 5'8" woman with a firm grip can tighten it enough for it to hold quite well. Overtightening (a man with a wrench) could crack the glass.
