Requirements for G. Smithii

i will be getting a G. Smithii from a fellow reefer, as he wants to free up his refugium, and not really sure how to care for it.


I will be putting the mantis in a 10 gallon, with LR and sandbed of about 3 inches. i was planning on having a coral morph tank with this species. would that be ok?

Feeding - not really sure what to feed. i plan of throuing in a few crabs now and then from my 75 gal reef, and a snail or 2. but apart from that, how often should i feed?

And what shoul i use as it's diet, like fish meat, shrimp, mussle etc...

other than that feel free to add some helpful tips.

I just put a 2 1/2 inch G. Smithii in a 10 gallon with 10 lbs of live rock and a 2 inch sand bead. Hes doin fine so far. As for feeding just toss in a few hermits and snails and replace as necissary. I dunno about supplemental foods...i guess you could expierement. Your best bet would probably be brine or mysid shrimp...maby silver sides...

For meals between 'real' meals (or to distract him from 'real' meals) I feed HBH shrimp pellets a few times a week.

Pellets really? Wouldn't that be easy. I have never tried it!

Really really. He comes right after them. Picks them up, smacks them a couple times then just sits around eating them.
