I dont have a clue what it is other than a "Spiral Coral". Ive googled it and have gotten very little info.

I think it is a non photosynthetic coral that will need to be fed, but other than that:

Anyone have one? Best placement, lights (prob low), flow?????:crazy1:

This is a few minutes after placing in tank after a 5 hour drive.

no idea. might have better luck in the non photosynthetic forum

looks possibly like a gorg or similar. Most of the prettier ones are very tough to keep long term , and feeding them isnt nearly as simple as simply hucking some food at them

ive tried a few of them failing within a year on all of them....so I quit trying

looks kinda cool though. GL with it

it is an sps, and spiral is the common name for it...I was just reading about it the other day and now have to go find where! When I do I will post again...non photosynthetic...high levels of feeding needed...low survival rate.

Just FYI, it's not an SPS, it is a nonphoto, kinda like a gorg, but yeah, a black coral.

I dont believe in it either. it just struck me as odd for a coral to be protected from harvest for jewelry, but allowed to be collected for live sale

The base it sits on is exactly like mine. Im thinking same collector, culturist?

Ive been feeding daily, so far so good in a mostly SPS tank.

black corals have always been regarded as azooxanthellae, however sicentists have found some cirrhipathes to host zooxanthellae

I got one of these 2 weeks ago. the base was dead showing a black skeleton (It was burried in the sand at the pet store) and that actually has regrown back. I feed it once a day, which so far has been pretty easy as it eats every food imaginable that touches it and the polyps are open almost all the time.

After a short time, I am pleased with how this coral is responding. It's currently not even in the main tank, a 10 gallon QT with a nano-tunze powerhead.
