Rescue 911: Fungia

So I just walked in from a final exam in psych and my tank light had cut on and I walk over to look at the money pit and notice something is wrong with my fungia plate.

The mouth is completely gone, along with a lot of the tissue. I can't think of anything that would have caused this, other than I did feed some Kent's Microvert filter feeder food to a few things in the tank last night, but I have dosed that before with no sign of irritation. All my water params are where they should be, my other LPS (pearl bubble, red lobo, candy cane, trumpet) are doing fine, as are the softies. Is there any hope for the little guy? He had doubled in size in the 3 months I'd had him and looked great. Are plate corals among the ones that can regenerate or is he a goner?
Thanks

i thought you can flip fungia upside down.this is supposed to make it spit out babies.dont quote me on that but that is what ive been told.

they can produce babies on a de-nuded skeleton, but I'm not sure of the specifics. I saw something about it on wwm a while back, it might be worth checking out.
At this point though, I'd still be curious why it did this, I'd hate to see it happen again.
