Rescue Attempt

Picked this Acropora austera from the LFS. It was brought in wild about 3 months ago. It was a nice purple with blue polyps. It was a huge colony at the time but it began to lose tissue till it ended up looking like this. They gave it to me in hopes that I can get it to survive.
As you can see it's bleached pretty bad but the polyps are still bright blue. Lets see how it ends up looking if it survives.

So you put it in your main display tank? You think that's a good idea? Good luck with it anyway.

Yes I did. The coral is actually already making a comeback. It's less than half the size it was originally but has quite a bit of new growth. The problem is that the LFS doesn't provide the conditions to keep corals long term (Not the best LFS to say the least). I dipped the coral with Bayer Complete insect control prior to introducing it to the tank. I don't see any more risk than introducing a new frag.

goodluck with it.i like shopping at coral kingdom in taft and douglas, i see your from pines.he has some sweet acros and alot of le frags what store did you get this if you dont mind me asking?

I actually go there quite a bit. I trade with Victor sometimes so some of the corals at his store are mine and many of mine are from him. This coral was actually from Beverly's on Pines. I get most of my wild colonies there cause they tend to get a good amount of wild colonies compared to others. They also sell frags that they get from my wife's cousin The Coral Nursery (TCN).

sweet i didnt no beverleys was carrying sps i stopped going there a while ago.and yes victor has a great store with great service and frags

Well it's been about three weeks and things have been changing for the better with this coral. It's started to turn a purplish shade with some tips showing yellow. It's hard to see in the pictures but that may change as the colors intensify.

It's impossible to see with my crappy pictures but the tips are starting to turn yellow.

Thanks.
I wish I had a better camera, cause my phone doesn't do it justice. That coral was almost completely bleached when I first found it at the LFS.
