Rescued Golden (Banana) Moray

I got a Golden Moray from a posting on Craigslist a few months back. The previous owner ONLY fed him goldfish for a year. I am surprised he made it! I weened him onto silver sides, squid, and octopus from the fish market. I inject selcon and garlic in the silversides abdomen. Sometimes I put Spectrum Thera-A pellets in their too. He is doing great! Had a growth spurt. He is sooo much more active than before.

I'm looking for someone else with a Golden Moray, or someone with extensive experience with eels, for care advise. What do you feed? How often do you feed? What do you have for tankmates? Thinks to look out for... etc...

Thanks

Sounds like you are doing great with him, and congrats on the rescue and getting him on a better diet.

I have a Goldentail and just try to give him a somewhat varied diet of large meaty food. I feed silversides, scallops, krill, squid, and more often than anything raw table shrimp. This is my second Eel, I had a Snowflake for 5 years when I lived in S.C. I feed Eels typically every other day and use variations of Kent Vitamin C, Zoecon, Selcon, and Garlic. Only issue with mine, he is a tough to get food to. He relies on the feeding tongs, and my big Lime Green Wrasse plays a nightly game of "steal the food from the Eel". He is lazy and waits for me to get the food to him, however my Snowflake was like this for a few years until he got bigger and came out for his food more.

How big is yours now?

I would estimate 19 inches. Seems like he has grown at least 2 inches since I've had him. I don't feed him krill or shrimp. He has pointy teeth which means they eat fish in the wild. I have several Skunk Shrimp and Fire Shrimp so I don't want him to take a liking to shrimp! Does your GoldenTail have blue eyes like the picture on Saltwaterfish?
