Rescuing a cleaner shrimp

Looks like my new cleaner shrimp got sucked through the grate that leads to the filters at the top of my 28 gal. JBJ NanoCube.

Now I can see him in the side compartment where the tube runs back to the nozzles.

Any suggestions on how to get him to the top so I can scoop him out? Also, if I can do that, any suggestions on what to put in front of that grate to keep this from happening again?

maybe a piece of nylon screen?

i had a clown jump through a tiny opening and end up in the same compartment you are talking about. happened twice! i played hell getting him out of there. finally had to take the pump out and just go in with my hand and scoop him to the top and drop him back into the dt. took a few tries! i cut some plastic and made a barrier so it won't happen again. this happened in my 14g oceanic cube. poor design!
