RESPECT THREAD TO RKELMAN 『My Snowflake Clownfish Are spawning!!!』

first of all
i just register this account

because of everything i've learned from rkelman
and i've succesfully breeding my clownfishes

but i can still saying that
not that successfully as i thought
atleast i didnt do better them him
and anyway
my story is

i'm now breeding snowflake clownfishes
but i always just end up around 70 fishes(200 eggs i guess),
almost every hatch.

i dont know what i did wrong but seems like every hatch i lost almost 50% of fries at first few days,
and the death seems like started from the second day,
or maybe i can say the day after the first meal

i dont know whats going on actually
because the water is fine,
from the parents
and food dentisive is good,
those rots i fed has been feed rotigrow products
so i think that wont be a problem
have no any of idea

so this is what actually every hatch happened
1day: no death and i fed rots and all they're fine
2day:about 30%death,and the others are fine
3day:the 20% death, and the others are fine and all ate alot of rots
4day~6day:every day i lost about 5% i guess.and the other fishes are still in good shape
after day7:no death since then, and they all make it after meta(70 of 200 fries, then they've been feeding otohime A,since that that's a relieve to me

so now the problem seems like from day 2~day3
there's something wrong that i didnt notice that can cause alot of death of the fries,i dont know what it is yet, because every step seems ok for me,can someone here have the experience of breeding snowflake clownfish before?or does any can give me any advices?

Your numbers of live ones are not bad at all for someone starting out. With some of my designer clowns my best amount was 196 & a lot around 150.Picasso Onyx almost 400. I always use sterile tanks with NSW & never water from the parents tank.

hi reefstew
u had a great amount!
so do u mean the problem is the water from the parent stank ?
and btw i tinted water green by using rotigrow plus

Not all but a lot of breeders do not use the tank water from the breeding pair. Less green water is better then to much green water. Most of the time I don't use it.

oh okay,
the only reason i use green water is because if i dont use it,they will stay in the corner and starve to death.i didnt tint the water to much, just enough for the fries to get out of the corner and for the rots to eat

what tank set up do you have?
if you dont mind me asking..
I'm interested in breeding my frostbites

hi duy
no worries,I use four 45X60cm aquariums
about 200 liters of water as well as a c protein skimmer
except at the end of winter, then will put warmers in

Your numbers don't seem bad too me. First off if you are only getting 200 eggs I would guess that your parents are young. If that is the case I would expect that in a few month you will see as many as 400eggs and then you should see 100-150 babies. As far as your babies they look great, and I would also assume your brood stock looks just as good.

I am still new at this as well and I'm getting close to the same result, one thing that I tried that helped a little is I added two air stones with vary little air coming out of them the first few days, then I over the course of about 3 day I slowly turned them up so that by day 5 I had two air stones with a nice rolling bubble. I think too much air in the first two days may kill some of the weaker fish.

hi Jaypilot

ya i think so too,but actually i just use one air stone. the first day they're all right, and all of them are eating rots ,untill the night they're still looked good, but the second day i woke up,i just found out a lot of dead, and the timing they're dieing doesnt seems like the air stone kill them, its weird.my thought is if the air bubble killed them, they should die in the first day but not till second day morning.
but i could try next time, thanks for ur advice man

If you already have the air turned down on the one air stone then its possible they are not getting enough air. As the fish grow they are going to require more oxygen and unfortunately its a tough balancing act because the warmer the tank is the less oxygen there is in the water. So for me I like lots of stone with little air coming out of each one.

Just my .02cent that may not even be worth two cents.
