Resplendent anthias question

hobbzz

How do I change this?
As far as schooling is concerned, do resplendents tend to stick together like dispars? Or are you more likely to have a school scattered throughout the tank like with lyretails? Thanks in advance

IME, the 8 resplendents I kept in my 200 gallon mixed reef were scattered smaller groups that hung in an around the rockwork. They didn't really school together.

Thanks Peter I will. By the way I got some dispar based on your recommendation and they're great. Always together. Kinda makes me wish I had gotten ten of them instead of any lyretail.

I thought Steve (snorvich) had a large group... maybe check with him?

Yes, they will splinter because, even though I started with all females, two turned male and they herd their respective harem of females. That behavior is pretty interesting though (to me at least). Since they are in an 8 foot tank, the two groups tend to stay away from each other. I cannot tell if there is any piracy among groups as there is simply too much movement.

I am not a fan of lyretail. Dispar are excellent.

I like the look of lyretail, but they're almost always separated.

Would you say that, within their respective groups, they stick together? Or do the fish in each group go off on their own a lot, in your case , on their specific side of the tank. Thanks everyone.

They are not tight groups but the male does not allow them to go too far. The only fish that I know of that will form a tight group is Apogon Parvulus.

Resurrecting a 'stale' thread .....

I'm on a bit of an anthias kick lately. Just picked up seven from LA (six females, one male) and have them in QT. Haven't had any resplendents in a few years. Any new thinking on how to best keep these guys - beyond space and frequent feeding?
