Resplendent Anthias

I have a 30"x30"x20" cube and I am looking at getting a couple resplendent anthias. My question, for the anthias gurus out there, how many would be too many for a single group in my tank? There is lots of open water and some good areas with caves in my rock structure. The only other fish I currently have is a bi-color blenny, as I am just starting to stock with fish, instead of coral. Thanks in advance.

From my understanding, Anthias can be kept singly in smaller sized nanos. Once you add a male/female or school they need more open room to swim length wise.

I have a 30" cubish tank as well and decided against these fish, although a school of three would probably be fine.

I was kinda hoping for at least 5-7, but I will definitely keep your information in mind. Maybe I will look for a different fish, unless I hear differently. Thanks for your reply.

I definitly think 5-7. I would go with 9 or 10. I've got 4 and they are awesome! I've never seen a picture that does them justice...

9-10 is kinda what I was hoping to hear, as long as they don't have aggression issues and will be happy. They are some of the smaller anthias and I don't plan on having any other fish in my tank so they won't be bothered. Thanks for your reply. Any other opinions?

Well, with no other fish, I think 9-10 is your maximum. I have 18 of them in a 350 gallon tank which is otherwise lightly stocked. Great fish. They eat mysis (hikari), cyclopeeze, blackworms, capelin fish roe.

I agree, the closest I have seen, and it still is no where near.

I actually think that picture is a very good representation. Mine look just like that, although my male is larger than my females by a good margin.

That's a lot of anthias for that size cube, IMO. Unless you LOVE them, and don't want any other fish, I don't see a reason to get that many. A trio would be great; will give you all the color and social interaction of a larger group.
