ressurecting a previous thread

I found a thread once that asked why some anemones only expand at night. No one had answerred it and I can't find it now. I searched through a few pages of topics and it vanished. Since the search function rarely works for me, can someone re-answer this question again? My carpet use to do the same thing, shrivel up under the lights but look great at night. I just wanted an answer for future knowledge so that I may be able to help someone with similar experience.

That isn't normal behavior. What type of carpet is it?

My 3 haddonis all expand more when the lights are on. And really don't get that much smaller when the lights are off.

What type of lights do you have, and what types of lights was the anemone under when you got it?

It doesn't do it anymore, just when I 1st got it. Now it behaves like normal. It only did it for the 1st 2 or 3 days. It was under 2 150watt 10k metal halides in a 65 gallon. I have it under 2 10k and 2 460 actinic T-5s. I just wanted to know what caused it. I have read other threads, but no answer as to why. Is there still hope for anemones that behave in this way? Obviously mine pulled through. No it eats regularly, once a week. It would probably eat every other day if I fed it.

Another reason I ask is because I had a BTA at one point that did the same thing, but it didn't pull through. It eventually wasted away.

It is typically caused by a change in pH at night. However, no one really knows for sure. My anemone does it some nights, and not others, so I really wouldn't be able to say...
