Restarting the Passion, Coming back to the Hobby!

When I lost all my clauvaria I discovered a long white/grey nudibranch on the glass after they were all gone. Sneaky beasts, never saw them eating, and from what I read only eat clauvaria.

Hey dude I tried to watch the video and YT tells me:
"This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds".

Me want to see video. :(

Markalot,

I havent noticed any nudibranch, but the other night I saw something sneaking around in one of my live rocks.... After pulling the rock out and a closer examination I found a nickel sized Gorilla crab...

I was so careful setting this tank up! A clean setup, fish less cycle, dipping everything that came in. I just don't have any idea where the beast came from!

Anyway, I was able to kick him out of the rock and ditch him in the yard!

Sahin, Im not sure what to tell you? Nor do I know what that means.

Thanks Ollisshop.

UPDATE:

This morning I got an Ant Insignis ORA acro and Red planet in the mail. As well as another small emerald crab for the bubble algae, and two peppermint shrimps.

Ill try to get pictures soon.

The Insignis and Red planet were both on my must have list. I love the look of the insignis, it really screams SPS to me, and the red planet for its color.
Anything red or blue and I must have it.

Sahin, Im not sure what to tell you? Nor do I know what that means.

Basically the soundtrack you used in the video is copyrighted and restricted in the UK.

However I was able to circumvent Youtubes restriction today by using a website that makes Youtube think I am located in the USA.

So was able to watch the video. Tank looks great. Keep up the good work!

Just read your whole thread. Looking great!
You scape has really accommodated the corals well.
That little mystery coral that was in the zoas looks like a pavona. It's grown out really nicely, whatever it is..
Nice pe as well..
Great build!

Quick Update 12-6-15

Quick Update 12-6-15

So, Recently I have been battling a multitude of issues with the tank, starting with the rapid and progressive decline of multiple corals in the tank over the last couple of months including but not limited to:
Acros
Montis
Xenia
Zoas
Acans
...

I have struggled with identifying what the issue has been until about a month ago. When performing routine maintenance and checking the parameters of the tank again (for the billionth time) I decided I wanted to see what fauna have developed under the sandbed.

Good thing I did.
I had a 2 foot Eunicid worm living on the underside of the reef...
After some crafty moves, and the use of kalkwasser paste in its burrow, I managed to p*ss it off enough to get it to shoot right out of one of its entrances and start swimming around the top of the tank.
God, these things will give you chill bumps!

Since its removal, and the removal of the flame angel (started eating the acros too) I am left with only a few acropora left in the tank, and a tank still in recovery from some serious munching.

Here are a few shots tonight of mostly the LPS in the tank.
I also finally have been able to acquire one of the sought after metallic orange/gold hammers.

That's a good looking hammer. Jeepers on the worm, I cannot imagine, nor do I think I have enough intestinal fortitude to handle removing one. :o

Oh yeah, baby! That monster brings back memories. I had a pair in my last reef: a four foot monster and a one foot girlfriend or little sibling.. I don't know which..

These things decimated my corals.. They ate all the tips off most of my sps.. And it was a full sps, 300 gal tank.. I never saw them once. Only after tearing the tank down for renovations did I realize why my corals were in such bad shape..

Congrats on getting it out!

Congrats on removing the beast. I had a four footer as well in my previous 120, decimated my zoos. Very elusive and only appeared at night. Was never able to grab him long enough to pull him out and finally had to remove his liar with him in it. Smashed the rock with a sledge for final extraction and extermination. :blown:

I had no idea how big it was until it came flying out of the sandbed.
2 feet is plenty big enough for me! a 4 foot worm would have made me have a heart attack.

Yes, it pretty much annihilated multiple zoa colonies, and the great majority of the SPS.
I only have 3 colonies left, and a frag or two now.
The worm, in conjunction with the flame angel ... the SPS didn't have an ice cubes chance in... you know.

I caught of those years ago...but it was only a youngling. Still scary though! Tank is looking nice despite the trouble.

Thanks,

They are still in recovery from the Eunicid worm and Flame angel, especially whats left of the SPS corals.
The Red Hyacinthus got it the worst it seems.

Update 1.3.16

Update 1.3.16

So everything in the tank is now recovering well from the most recent issues.
I have developed what looks like dinoflagellets on the gorgonian, which is annoying but other than that everything is once again stabilizing.

So of course I have to change something. haha

Last week I began a project to change out the original factory LED's that came with the MARSAQUA fixture I used for primary lighting.

I needed to replace 2 Diodes that had burned out, so I went ahead and ordered 10 20K diodes, 10 395-400UV diodes, 10 410-415 NM diodes and 5 460-465nm diodes.

I replaced the red and green existing LEDs with UV leds, and all of the warm white 3.5K diodes with Violet LEDs, only two of which being 20K's.
I also installed 3 other 20Ks.

This created a much more white/crisp white channel and the addition of the UV/V leds helped fill in some spectral gaps this fixture has been missing.

I immediately noticed the "cleaner" appearance, but have not seen any substantial coloring effect on any of the corals yet. (Its only been a week).

Here are some pictures of the process and a FTS of the tank this evening with the iPhone.
