Restricting a mag pump

Can I put a ball valve in line on the output of my Mag 7 to reduce flow? or do I need a Tee and a ball valve off the Tee? or will putting it in line be louder, or reduce the life of the pump?
Thanks,
Adam

I have done this to my mag 12 with no problems or extra noise. I dont see reducing the life of the pump, it probably acts as more head pressure on the pump which it is made for anyway.

you can put a ball valve on the outgoing side of the Mag with out harming it. Never restrict the incoming side.

I agree you can restrict the flow leaving--but what I have been trying to find out is if you restrict the output then does the wattage the pump use also decrease?

Adam,
Are you asking if you can mount the ball valve right on the output? or...just is it ok to have the ball valve on the out side of the pump. What we did at my house was attach the female receptor to the pump, add a small amount of PVC then the ball valve then it goes to a T to split it to both sides of the tank.

I am not sure if this helps or not :)

like this??

No not like that, the ball valve on the other side. usually with thinks in front of the pump like that esp if you start to close the valve the pump will cavitate and creat a huge raket and potentially break.
