Resurrecting the 75

I am typing this proudly as I listen to the hum of the mag 7. It has been 8 months we have been home from adopting and this is the first chance I have had to devote myself to my big tank. I started this morning and just finished about 30 minutes ago.

I did have the help of both daughters off and on, and they seemed to take interest in the process. I hope that is a good sign for the future. Other than two water changes all of my tank maintenance has been done "tomorrow". Usually any time I started to work on it, one of the three children have a meltdown over something and I am quickly diverted to deal with them.

My engineer goby has been so sad for so long, but tonight before I turned the light out he came out from under the rocks to give me a big smile. Or maybe I was hallucinating...

The biggest excitement of the evening came when we did the test run and my youngest declared in her Russian English "Papa, zee water is biting me!" Promptly followed by a laugh from me and an "Eetz not funee!" from her. The old Mag 7 had a short and even with a new powerstrip a lack of GFCI can getcha.

When we changed it out she looked at me and said "You touchin' zee water?" I promptly responded in a fatherly way, "No, you do it." All was well and I just had to celebrate this achievement by boring all of you Alabama Reefers out there.

Here is the second coming of my tank:
75g corner drilled
2x175w MH
2x40w 10000K t12's

Pro Clear Aquatics sump(modified by an acryllic butcher...me)
ETSS Reef Devil Skimmer
Mag 7 pump for skimmer
Hagen Aqua Clear 901(900gph) Powerhead as return pump.
Hagen 400gph powerhead in tank

The Mag 7 hums a little bit and the overflow is yet to find its balance, but the 901 is much more tame than the Dolphin 1200 that was on there. It was just a beast The powerhead in the tank should balance everything nicely though.

No more to say than hoorah and good night. If you made it this far then you must be bored, so go check your salinity or ph or something. There is always more work to be done!!!

David,
Welcome to fatherhood and welcome back to RC my friend. Sounds like things are going great with kids & tank.
My oldest daughter left home for a job in Tampa today. Of course, we'd gotten used to her being away at college, but I feel like she moved out for the last time today. Make sure to drink in every moment.

Having adopted three teenagers there are times where you drink in the joy of the moment and some times the moment makes you want to drink...even if you don't!
I am sure you can remember those days.

Ahh yes! My wife and I adopted one child out of foster care and have kept many teen foster children over the years (some of them very troubled).
Still, it has all been very rewarding for us and I know that it will be for you.

Our days of active foster parenting were in Etowah County. I also served on the DHR quality oversight committee here in Limestone County for a couple of years.
