Return is making too much noise, please help!

I have a 60 gallon, standard dimensions with a quiet1 4000 HH hooked up externally and it is LOUD...bought it new, checked to make sure the impeller didn't break, it's fine...I have hard plumbing everywhere.

There was some water damage to the bottom of the stand when I got it and I kinda just ignored it, is that why there is a lot of noise?

any ideas? I am thinking about putting cardboard or something under the sump to lift it up and do the same under the return...and maybe muffle some sound?

thanks in advance...

How long have you had the pump running for? I've recently plumbed a new return pump up and on startup it was noisy, but after a week it's silent, so maybe give it a week or two to break in.

That is a huge pump for that size tank. QO pumps also have a reputation for not living up to their name. There are things you can do to isolate the noise, but I would use a smaller, quieter pump.

Do you have the pump sitting on the bottom of the sump? You might try putting one of those silicon pot holder thingies under the pump.
