Return line ?

Just wondering what you guys do for a retun line.

Do you aim it towards the front, along the side or shoot it towards the overflow?

It will be 3/4" return from the sump, should I let it be or funnel down to a 1/2" for more flow?

Any photos of a return would be helpful.

Thanks as I am almost ready for water.:)

Most return lines are bringing filtered and/or oxygenated water to the tank. You don't want to aim this water towards the overflow because you want it in the tank and not immediately into the sump again. However, some people will aim it towards the overflow to push surface scum into it, but this is best accomplished with a powerhead. BTW, reducing your outlet diameter does not increase total flow, it only increases velocity but volume remains the same until a point when resistance causes that to drop.

Thanks guys that was just what I was looking for. I had to do mine different as I have a plexi tank with no holes on the return side. I am using a combination of PVC and tubing.

Tested today and all is working perfectly. Now to put the hinges on the stand and bring her inside.(much to my wifes dismay)

I have live rock coming and I will run it dark for a few weeks as money is tight and the only light I have is a freswater basic 48" Coralife w moon lights.

Thanks again..Craig.
