Return options

I want to do the returns to the display tank with 2 Sea Swirls. Since they cost a lot I want to know what other options I should consider before going this route. I still would like some form of "random flow" from my returns though.

I've heard some interesting things about the SCWD. It's fairly cheap and uses no electricity to alternate current back and forth between 2 outputs. Depending upon the size, they seem to range in price between 40 and 70 bucks.

Have you ever seen one in use or know of anyone who uses them?

I've never worried about randomizing the flow from the returns and just handled it with the powerheads. They will overcome anything the returns are doing.

I have 2 of the Neptune power heads bought for the 180gl tank. Will that be enough?

I'm not familiar with them, so I will say maybe? I wouldn't be happy with it myself. but I like a ton of flow. The sea-swirls wouldn't do it for me either if that helps at all.

Lance let me know how thoes power heads work out I'm curently looking at them but the amount I would spend on them for a 300dd is crazy.

I haven't seen one in person yet. I have done a lot of reading and research on them though. Most users seem to love them and have no issues. They run for years with no problems. These have been out for over 5 years now. That's a long time to build up a track record. There have been some reports of premature failures. Those seem to be in the minority.

I'm planning to add one to my 180 gallon build. I have two corner overflows that each have a return pipe and I'm going to use one of these in the 1" size to switch the flow back and forth from one corner to the other.

I'm not planning for my returns to be the primary source of random flow in the tank. I'm going to have a Maxspect Gyre and 2 RW20's that will be pulsed off and on randomly as my primary source for flow. I'm just adding one of these to my return lines to supplement the random flow of the powerheads.

Yeah they are pretty steep $ for power heads. The 1 link module comes with 3 slots for the cords so I may even end up getting another one.

I would need 6 of them to do what I want lol. lots of random flow. I like the idea of less wires around the outlets. I'm thinking about geting 4 to start out and run my 2 jebaos temporarily until I can get 2 more. I just want to see some good feedback on them.

That is a lot... I will be able to tell you hopefully by the Superbowl.

I figured they are cheaper than the vortec powerheads. Heck I don't even think I can get used vortecs for that.
