Is it ok to use a ball valve on the return line to slow down the flow form the pump or will this cuase problems to the pump from the extra pressure? it is a mag7 pump just need to reduce the return flow to get rid of air bubbles,. thank you

You can do that.
But it would be better to figure out where the air bubbles are coming from.

I do not know about that particular pump but I do gear back my sequence pumps and it does not seem to cause a problem. It looks as if it just translates into additional head pressure.

You can always put a T in the line with your valve and run a return to back to the sump. That way it's not putting backpressure on your pump as the additional pressure gets redirected to the sump.

You can swap out the impeller for a Mag 5 impeller and convert the Mag7 to a Mag5.

Now that is a really good idea.

No extra plumbing, everything internal.
