i had a mag 7 for return on my 75 rr. personally i thought even that was to much flow coming out of that small nozzle. i had sand blowing everywhere and couldnt control it. (tried redirecting the flow into the rocks, ect. nothing worked) i'd go with a mag 5 if i ever did it again. only other option if you really want the big return pump is to put a T on the return so it devides the pressure up a little bit.
as far as noise goes. lol i don't care what anyone says theres just no such thing as a quite overflow. just get use to the noise. those durso's that come with the aga overflow kit work fine to damper the noise in the actual overflow, but there is still going to be alot of noise at the point where the water enters the sump due to air bubbles. another thing to make sure the overflow is as quite as possible is to make sure the durso is positioned at a height where the water falling from the overflow into the overflow chamber only falls about a 1/2in, so you dont get a "waterfall effect".
also, you said your plumbing in hard pvc. hard pvc is awesome in my opinion, but you may want to put a section of vinyl tubing on the return line to help dampen vibrations, since you said your concerned with sound. also try drilling 4 holes in the base of the mag pump, and attach two lengths of 1" vinyl tubing (with holes drilled through them as well) to the mag pump with zip ties.
