Return Pump on a 180g

Which would you guys use for a 180g SPS-dominated mixed-reef?

Main circulation will come from (2) Tunze 6200's on 7095 controller

The pump will only act as a return - won't need it to feed anything.

1) T3 - about 640 gph after head loss (3.5x through sump)
2) T4 - about 1100 gph after head loss (6x through sump)
3) or go internal, Eheim 1260 (not sure - the head loss calculator only has the 1250 listed)

I like the T4, but don't like the barbed inlets/outlets. Doesn't it make plumbing tough?

I like the T3 because it has threaded ins/outs, but it only has 3/4" ins/outs - T4 has 1"

Eheim was an afterthought cuz I think Naka uses one in his 188g? And his tank is nice! :D I also like it because it's internal - one less thing to worry about in regards to leaks.

tbone28, You say you wont be running anything else but do you know that for sure? It would suck down the road to want to add something & have to get a separate pump to run your add ons. A Eheim is fine for a return but a sequence or Dolphin with a manifold & unused ball valves would be idea. Just hook up your add on & turn a valve. I am setting up a 180gal & dont know what i will be adding down the road. But its nice i have the option to plug & play. Just my 2 cents.......

You've got a great point. I could always turn down the flow, or redirect excess back to the sump. You've just given me something else to think about!

The Dolphin Ampmaster & Sequence Reeflo Pumps will give you 2000 to 3000 GPH depending on how you plumb it. they only use 160/170watts. Now think if you went with a Eheim 1262 @ 80 watts, Now you want to add a calcium reactor & a Sea Swirl now a Kalk reactor and the big boy a chiller. You could exceed the 160/170 watts using all those pumps but can run all on one low amp low watt pump. Hope this helps. Like i said its just my opinion

are the dart sequence pumps quiet enough to be in the display room, or are they better if you have another room to block some of the noise?

thanks

Great Question...am interested in the answer. One reason I chose the Velocity pump is because it's quiet. My pump is going underneath the tank, which will be in the family room/kitchen area.

I've been running two Sequence Darts in my living room for a year and I can't hear a peep from them.. :)

Is your observation during times of normal ambient noises (TV on, conversation, etc)? What are your experiences when the room is completely quiet?

I can hear water noise from the sump... Put it this way.. I have to touch the pump to make sure it's on over the noise of the sump..

I have 3 Darts on my 390. Two are absolutely quiet. I have to touch them to see if they are on. One is noisey, but Reeflo Sequence said they will replace it. I need to call with the serial # and they will send another one.

So you guys run the darts in the same room and can't hear them?

If that is the case I will use that pump for my 180 gallon build.

I am planning on a dart for my 180. i was at a friends house and had the Barricuda, I was standing right next to it and couldn't hear it.

Do you know what model # of dart for the 180 you will use?

I have a Dart on my 120G running a closed loop. It is nowhere near as quiet as I had hoped. During quiet scenes on movies for example, you have a hard time hearing what is going on. Its a constant whirl sound, I can hear it from just about any room in the house.

Im running a Dart on my 180g w/100g sump,with 4 returns 2 being 1" wavyseas.I think the Dart is pretty quiet,not
loud at all.
