Return Pump Question

Good morning,

I have an opportunity to buy a drilled 70g tall tank with a single overflow. It has a 1" drain and a 3/4" return. How does that work when choosing a return pump? The sump is not drilled....does that mean I want a submersible pump with a 3/4" outlet? Also what is the rule-of-thumb when choosing the GPH on a pump?

Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It all depends on how you want to set it up. But... if you just want to put the sump in the stand below the tank , then yea, you just need a submersible pump, and most w/the size right for that tank and sump will have a 3/4" outlet. The rule of thumb for GPH DT->sump is 3x - 5x system volume (DT+Sump).

Spacey :D
