Return Pump selection

Hi everyone I need some help in selecting a return pump.

Overflow is drilled and rated at 600 GPH. with one possibly two obstructions 2 90 degree elbows

the return line has 4 obstructions, 4 90 degree elbows

both drain and return will have ball valves and the return also has a check valve.

I am looking for an internal (possibly external) quiet reliable return pump.

I was looking at either a Mag 700 GPH or Mag 900 GPH

any help is appreciated thank you

Check out Eheim 1260, very quiet and excellent reliability.

the eheim's are very quiet yes and it would work quite well . if you do use a mag ,go with the #7 as the 9 would be to large and usually loud .

A mag 5 was too much flow through my 10 gallon sump. Unless you plan on having the return be your main flow (not a good idea imho) about 300 gph flow is the max you want through a 14 gallon sump.

Hello, would the 300 be able to handle the 4 elbows, that is my only concern.

I aswell agree with the flow, even though it will be a FO I plan to have 2 K550s.

A mag 5 was too much? How much pipe and how many elbows in the return line. I'm in the process of planning a 10 gal sump for mine, and was also wondering what size pump I would need.

I found a new option possibly

Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0 Multifunction Aquarium Pump (568 GPH)

using only 35 watts almost half the mag and eheim.

also I really like how they are made in italy.

I've used the Sicce Snchra 3....decent little pump. Never gave me startup or running problems. I would not call it silent, but deifnitely one of the quietest pumps I have run. Those watts drop some as the head increases. My 3.0 went from its listed 48 watts to 32 watts after head pressure. That is true of almost all centrifugal pumps, the less water it pumps, the less work it does....so wattage usually will go down some.
