return pump vibrations

Can someone suggest a rubber mat or something to silence this annoying thing. It is a sicce 3.0....its not touching the sides of the sump or anything and I know if I put a sponge underneath it it will just collect nitrates and whatever else it wants to catch.:headwally:

they do a pretty good job. i have a old mag 5 that hums pretty bad and if i didnt have the silicone pad i'd probably go crazy.

Go to the dollar store or Walmart and get silicone pot holders and put one underneath your pump.

Yup, these work great and can be cut down to size if needed.
I tried a mouse pad once and it deteriorated rather quickly, but that was probably because I didn't remove the mouse! :lol2:

Question for you. Is your pump hard plumbed 100% or do you have any soft plumbing between the pump and the tank? I have 3 3.0's running my system and no vibrations from them but they all have some soft plumbing in use.

Do you have a spot that you could swap in some soft plumbing? It would help a lot to further isolate the pump vibrations from the tanks. Some will say that this section needs to be 12" or so but I have less on all three pumps and no vibration issues. My return has about 8", my closed loop one has about only .75" between the two barbs with about 2.75" total length of tubing. That is on the outlet side while the inlet side has about a 5" section of tubing. My skimmer one (3.0 motor block but a needle wheel impeller) has only about 3mm's between hard plumbing parts inside a 2.5" piece of silicone tubing. All three pumps have different rubber feet for the body to glass contact points.

yea its an option I suppose I haven't glued the return pvc pipes so that might be a little project for later on in the week. I can pick up a 3/4 barb fitting and see what happens
