I am in the process of planning my sump/return pump configuration for a new 180 Gallon AGA reef ready tank. I was planning on running 2 3/4 inch Sea Swirls fed by two pump circuits with a Y adapter on the Sea Swirls to give me two sweeps of 180 degrees apiece. This should give me some random flow that will break up the constant flow of some powerheads (Koralias and Tunze Nanos which I hope to Mod for more flow).
I currently have a single 3/4 inch Sea Swirl on my 90 gallon, which is fed by a Gen-X MAK4 pump, running through my chiller, which is plumbed with 3/4 in. tubing. There are several 90 degrees going out to the chiller and back up to the tank. I was hoping to maintain this configuration, and add an additional pump such as an Eheim 1262 that will feed directly to the tank thru the other Sea Swirl.
I am looking at about 4 - 5 foot of head from the sump.
Do you think an Eheim will do the job, or should I go with a different pump?
Would it be better to get a larger external pump and T it off to feed both circuits?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Herb
