Return pumps

I have an 80 gallon aquarium and am upgrading my return pump, I'm looking at two different ones right now,
Current eflux 1050gph
Reef octopus VarioS 2 792gph
Would love input from anyone who has either and also recommendations for other submersible pumps under $200 that are quiet

How much head loss do you have?
Do you plan on running anything else of this return pump or solely to return water to display tank?

Fluval or Laguna with the Askol block - super reliable and powerful and not too power hungry. Ehiem are also very reliable and good. I like mags since I have basement sumps, but they get pretty loud and would only really recommend one if you got it for really cheap, but they are super reliable.

If you live in an area where heaters need to run all the time, then submerge them and use the free heat. If not, then either can be run externally.

Neither of the ones you posted are suitable for running as a return pump with 4ft of head + an ATS based off the posted flow charts and assuming 5x DT GPH sump flow..

Good lookin out, I think I'm going to go with the 1900 gph current eflux and just dial the flow back a bit

No problem... Going bigger is always better when you plan on potentially adding other things off it and when its rate is adjustable..

The ones you had were right at the low limit and just not sufficient..

Rainbow quiet one pumps are pretty quiet. They are pretty powerful too and not all that expensive.
