If you need to you could. That will reduce the flow/head a bit because of increase back pressure but you could probably turn the return pump up to make up for it.
If you have a problem with flow on the other side I'd suggest using a powerhead to take care of it.
I have been researching this same issue. I am setting up a 90mgallon 4' long tank. Apparently 1 return is enough. The powerheads will do most of the work as far as turnover is concerned.
