Returning after 10 years, can anyone bring me up to speed. Apartment nano help

Hey everyone, Im returning tot he hobby after a 10 year hiatus.

I am currently living in an apartment with residents underneath me, I travel semi often for 5-7 days and really want the enjoyment of a small reef tank back in my life.

What is the best way to go about this?

I am figuring Id need to have a sump in case of a power failure to not cause a flood, and automation for lights and feeding. Possible a float switch in another bucket,

Any advice here? equipment, lighting for SPS?

Is an aqua clear remora still a good protein skimmer.

Help bring me up to speed please!

Welcome Back!

How big of a tank are you looking at purchasing? Plenty of AIO (All In One) option available to eliminate the need of a sump.

probably 20-30 tops.. im worried about flood damage.

I was never really into the all in ones because i prefer customizability and tinkering :)

Id go with an Innovative Marine Nuvo 20g or 40g. No need for a sump and you don't have to worry about a flood

I've been on a 12 year absence myself. LED lighting is a very effective way to go. Back when I had my 20H, I had a 150w HQI Sunpod. That thing got hot and evaporated LOTS of water. Speaking of water, the Tunze ATO is prolly the way to go in terms of that. Those were the big changes that I've noticed...along with the ecotech powerheads too.

I would recommend an AIO tank, such as nuvo 20g rimless or aio biocube. They would be ideal for apartment n they are not too big to break down if you need to. Plus you do not need a sump. they are easy to maintain in my opinion as long as you have it set up correctly n do regular water change. As for light i recommend ai, echotech or kessil leds.

I live on the 14th floor of an apartment as well. I don't worry about flood damage because I have home insurance. Actually, the building management wouldn't let me keep an aquarium (42g) unless I showed proof of home insurance. I have an AIO reef coffee table.

dr foster and smith has a sale for $159, plus you get $50 gift card on next purchase and its free shipping. Thats the best deal I see on it, pretty much getting it for 100.
