Hey all. I last had a 220 gallon reef tank for a long time but then moved states. Didn't put in a new tank. Ready to restart. Has there been any major changes or upgrades worth looking at in the last 10 or so years?
Our understanding of the various and conflicting roles of Dissloved Organic Carbon (DOC), corals, algae and sponges in maintianing healthy microbial processes for corals has been greatly expanded. Some of the research has shown PaulB and Steve Tyree's emphasis about sponges and bacteria largely substantiated
Here's some videos you may find interesting:
"Coral Reefs in the Microbial Seas" This video compliments Rohwer's book of the same title (Paper back is ~$20, Kindle is ~$10), both deal with the conflicting roles of the different types of DOC in reef ecosystems. While there is overlap bewteen his book and the video both have information not covered by the other and together give a broader view of the complex relationships found in reef ecosystems https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R2BMEfQGjU
