Returning To The Hobby

By the way if you can drill the glass an international overflow is better but if not a HOB will work fine just keep an eye on it is all.

If that's the case then no 10x in the DT will not be enough flow. You want a sump and an ATO then for sure.

Yeah I was considering doing baffles in my tank but baffles themselves probally cost $50, when you can get a ATO for $50.

I would run a skimmer for sure then as well. An ATO will add stability to your water which you need for corals.

What model do you recommend and what pump should I use? I have a old 5 gallon tank lying around.

Find a glass shop and have them cut glass to size for you. How big of a tank can you get in the stand? The bigger the better. I would not make a sump from acrylic though. If a 5 is all that will fit then use that.

I was referring to the ATO, the reservoir for the ATO with the 5 gallon tank. And dont you need a pump for your ATO. I dont think I can fit more than a 10 gallon sump in there.

For an ATO you could use a small water pitcher to hold your RO/DI. You do need pump but only a cheap one at best some ATO come with everything. I only know one ATO system and it comes with everything. It's the best system you can buy so the cost is high. Now that I think about it there is one that I know of that fills without a pump.

After doing some in depth research, I noticed that the Reef Octopus 110 may not fit in my sump possibly but im not 100% sure. Does it look like it will fit? Dimensions:10.6 L"" x 6.75 W" x 19.75" H is the size of the reef octopus 110, and the size of the 10 gallon sump is 20 1/4 x 10 1/2 x 12 9/16. If Im reading the dimensions correctly, it looks like it will fit but it will take up more than half of the sump in length.

That's the problem with a 10gal sump. That's why I was telling you not to put a lot of baffles in. You can make a 10gal sump work but things will be tight as all. Yes the skimmer will fit. Make sure you can get the cup off and check the height of the water that the skimmer has to sit in.

If the skimmer is taking up half of the sump already, does that mean I dont have enough room for a refuigum now?

Hey actually I found this thread on here with some super cheap powerheads on Ebay. Do you think I should snag one of those and if so which GPH model http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2541270

Yeah i was looking on that website for a few days now. Very helpful. I was thinking about 6 to 15 1-inch fish, or 2 to 4 3-inch fish in my tank.

There really aren't any 1-inch fish in saltwater, and even with smaller fish like a citron goby, you can normally only have one in a smaller system. You could do a pair of clowns and a goby/pistol shrimp combo in a 30 gallon.

Depends on what you want to do. An ATS can sit on top pf the sump. Rocks can be put around things ect.
