Reunion Angelfish Information

Blue Ring Sting

Hi guys

There is so little known about this angelfish and there is only 1 image on the web of this fish. Does anyone know anything about it? Has anyone ever kept one of them? I have heard from a friend of mine that there was only 1 ever caught and there was a guy looking for them and was never able to locate them.

Lets hear what information you guys have?

Here is the picture of the Reunion Angelfish ( Apolemichthys Guezei )

Go to Reunion.. lol

Reunion is protected I believe, so it is unlikely they will ever be offered legally.

There was a collector in Madagascar a while back claiming he could get them, but never did. It is possible they are outside of Reunion but with so little actually explored, no one knows.

Lol. I am so confused, I don't know where to go.

Are you referring to Markus? I am trying to find out if it is protected but it is also a very remote place to go to.

This is what I have found on the web when it comes to location: "This little-known species has only been recorded from the island of Réunion (Mauritius) in the Indian Ocean (Fricke 1999). It might also be distributed around the islands of Mauritius and Madagascar although this needs confirmation (Allen 1980). It has been recorded at depths of 60 to 80 m."

I heard that they have been seen in SA but I doubt it, its a bit far off.

I saw a previous thread detailing a bit more information but not much. It was in 2009. Copps do you have any more information on these beauts?

Hey BRS, if you want to catch a rare angel why not head to Kona and snag a C. nahackyi? Probably get $30,000 for one in Japan!

They are very rarely spotted there but not terribly deep, 200' or so. They are almost common compared to A. guezei though.

Jazzman, at the moment we are trying to work out costs to find out what would be more viable. I am in South Africa so Mauritius, Madagascar and Reunion Islands are not too far away from us.

But if we venture out to the South Pacific, costs increase and we need to ensure that we catch something.

Let me ask you this, what is the probably of finding a Nahackyi in Kona?

Found more information on the Reunion and Debelius Angelfish to where they are located. I have inquired with a local dive centre and they told me they see those fish but it is in a marine protected area. I am still digging to find out where else we can find them. Lets hold thumbs!

I would love to go out to Kona and attempt to find them but first would like to try a deep collection closer to home, rather than going all the way out and getting nothing.

Yeah and from what has been read about them is that the odd few are found outside of the Johnston Atoll. Also the Debelius and Reunion Angelfish are located in the Aldabra Atoll, also protected. I just wonder how these guys do it. I can understand it takes alot of time and money to make the trip out to a remote location to do a dive.
