Reusing old live rock: quick help

I took a couple large pieces out of a tank during maintenance, forgot about them, and let them sit in dirty water for two weeks. There were some button polyps and hair algae on them.

I found them, and stored them dry for the last month. I'd like to put them back but can only assume I'd crash the tank?

How does one prep old "live" rock?

Thanks in advance!

I just rinse them off with ro or rodi water n put it back in, depending how big n how big your tank is, it probably wont cause any major issues, u can put one rock each week or put them in the sump then in uour display after a few weeks.

I agree with the above. Assuming your tank is established and healthy a quick rinse under the faucet should suffice IMO. If your already running GFO, GAC etc without this dry rock, I don't see why there should be a problem adding it.

I was worried about the dead/dried coral producing an ammonia spike or something. Thinking about curing it in a tub with skimmer for a few weeks. Not in a hurry, so maybe better safe than sorry

Don't think too much about it... You might just stand still. ;)

Keeping a happy healthy reef tank for years on end is not rocket science. Once you have a grip on the cycle it's all gravy. KISS. :)
