reusing sand

Hello,

im moving up to a bigger tank currently about 55g new one is about 120g with a sump and backwall anyway my tank was set up september last year, so its about 10 months old. I put in 2 bags of Ati Fiji White sand 2-3mm , about 18 kg. Should i just use the sand or are 10 Months enough to make the sand harmfull = its better to get new sand or clean it properly, i want to reuse the sand at least the top layer because of all the worms, life etc that it is in it as i dont plan to get anymore life rocks i got at least about 20-25 kg im not sure anymore. I had no Gobie cleaning the sand altough i plan to get a pair of Maiden Gobies with the new tank, only a sand sea star but i got him only like 2 or 3 months ago.
thanks for all the answers.

I have been reusing sand for quite some time with no ill effects. I just rinse it real well is all I ever do.

^^^What he said^^^

Rinse it using the old tank's water to remove as much gunk as possible and use it to seed the new (additional) sand in the larger tank.

okay so i will rinse the sand with the water from the old aquarium and add it

Might want to add some more rock and sand, like double the original amount.

im anxious to add more rocks to my main tank as i dont want some other mantis shrimp etc. in them, i already had or still have (hes in my nano tank) my share of fun with one,
at least now im sure my rocks in this tank are clean, but i will get alot of rocks for my sump.

i already have a reef ceramic backwall here for my new tank (100 cm length and 70 width, 50 height) so from the looks of my old tank
im sure it will look pretty stoked , i will add the backwall tomorrow
and post some pictures here, maybe i will change my opinion and get more rocks when its done nothings decided yet anyway

As long as the nitrates and phosphates were under control in your old tank I agree you are fine to reuse it as long as you wash it well in saltwater. I would not reuse it if you had elevated levels of phosphates or nitrates.

i think it worked out pretty nice, thats the looking of the reef ceramic backwall,
the other tank is only 40 width, 100 length and 50 high so i got 30 more width to place my live rocks .

That wall looks pretty nice. Great way to cover up an overflow. Hermits might try to climb over it with it being up to the bottom of the teeth. Looks like you could even mount some corals on that wall.
