Reusing substrate - bleach or no bleach?

My 72 gallon tank crashed about 6 weeks ago. I decided to rebuild and upgrade a lot of the components. I kept the substrate, which I rinsed pretty well with a hose in several 5 gallon buckets. I don't want to risk any of my old pests (asterina, bristleworms, etc) surviving somehow in egg or larva form.

So, should I soak the sand in a bleach/water mix, or are my fears unfounded and everything should be dead after sitting in a bucket for a month in my garage? Thanks in advance.

You should be fine IMO. Just make sure you closely inspect, dip etc any new additions to the tank. (rock, corals) In other words if one of those pests mentioned above does pop up don't be so quick to blame the sand. GL.

Personally I don't think "most" bristleworms or asterinas are a pest. Most asterinas co exist with corals just fine. Common Bristleworms help out on the cleaning end of things. There are a some nuisance Bristleworms that should be removed though. Just keep an eye out and I'd them at night when they come out.
