Reverse Durso

What is the result if you use to small of pvc for a reverse durso unit?
I'm coming off of 3/4 inch pvc from the over flow.
Is 1 inch too small?
What is the recommended size i should go up to?
I don't want to try 1 inch, then 2 inch then 1 1/2 inch, etc.

Any feedback is welcome!

Usually double your drain pipe size. So in your case 1.5" should work great. You might have trouble finding an adapter from 3/4 to 1 1/12. The other important thing in a reverse durso is to incorporate a Y into it.

I'm using one of these...Is that what you mean by a "Y"? (not the exact item, but similar)
I actually found a 2 inch piece with the inlet at 1 1/2 inches. I also found a bushing to get me from 3/4 inch up to that.
How far should the pipe stick up above the water level in the sump?
Likewise how far below should it go for the water outlet?

FYI...2 inch PVC seems to work good. It's much more calm down below in the sump. Actually bearable. Before it would seem that it was too turbulent to grow chaeto. Another question...Is there a good place to buy chaeto? There are NO local stores that sell it here. I find that weird. Anyway, is there a good/cheap place to purchase that isn't local?

Yes that is a Y. The pipe sticking up should be at leas 6" above the sump water level. More if you have room. I find the pipe coming off the bottom of the Y is best to go to the bottom of the sump. Cut some slits or drill some holes to allow the water to escape.

Mine actually sticks WAY above the water line. Seems to work pretty good.
As for the outlet...what is the advantage to cutting slits or holes in the pipe? Right now the water just flows out of the bottom of the pipe. Will the slits and help more with quieting and calming the water as it comes out?
