Rhizotrochus Spawned Today

We have about 8 Rhizos sitting at work, and we were lucky enough to catch some spawning this afternoon. I think these are eggs, though I still kind of hope they are an odd planulae phase.

I've never heard of this happening in captivity for Rhizotrochus, so figure its worth documenting. Sorry the pictures suck- I was in kind of a hurry. The first two are tank shots, the last one is one of them under my scope at 400x magnification.

Fingers crossed that *something* comes of this. If not, its all good; it was still cool to see it.

This one started to rupture just as I took the picture- boo. Best shot I could get though (cell phone cam held up to the scope eye piece... lol)

That's really neat, glad you were able to catch that in action and get some pictures. Do you work at Phishy's or something?

That oblong picture looks like it might be a planula (don't know if they are brooders or broadcasters though). Did you collect any with a pipette or other means? When you put them under the scope, were they moving around (as if ciliated) or just sitting still?

You could collect them, place them in a cup or very small container and watch them develop (if fertilized). Then, put some cured rubble in that container and see if they metamorphose.

Very cool.

Cheers
Mike

I remember seeing an article or thread about someone oho had this happen too. Can't remember where..

Now you need to be the first to have real aquacultured rhizos. Not the fake, cut in half ones.

Logzor- Indeed I do.
ousnakebyte- Ive got them in 3 different tanks- the original system, a 3 gallon, and a 10 gallon (the last two set up specifically for them).
I'm 90% sure they aren't fertile now, but I'll let them sit another couple days. But, if they spawned once, odds are it'll happen again. I've had a number of faviids do it before, a couple SPS, even some Euphyllia that settled and grew out. Fingers crossed.

That's awesome, it would be really need to see those eggs develop some, even if they didn't make it all the way to a full-functioning organism. Ya never know though, good luck!

Are you allowed to post how much you guys sell those for in the store? I was also wondering if you still have that huge dendro colony in stock, I should've bought that when I had the chance!!

I dont think I'm allowed to post the prices on here, sorry. I can say that giant Dendro is gone; someone picked it up a while back.

Whats up with the Phishy site? for the past week I've been trying to go onto the website but i am warned that it contains Malware and could harm my computer. Just thought id let you know. Am i the only one?
