Rhomboidalis Wrasse

Who's got one? Is it worth the coinage?

I'm considering saving up beyond the labouti I want to get and just going straight to the Rhomboid first.

Any special care instructions?

Every picture of 'em I see, the depth of color on them is just unbelievable.

they are really pretty and quite hardy, but expensive. I really like mine, but only you can decide if it's worth it though. i have a labaoutei also, he is very nice, but he gets bullied a lot.

To save some coin, I purchased a female who is transforming into a male, but I don't think you can guarantee that that will happen.

They are peaceful and beautiful fish, whether it's worth it can only be answered by you.

I'd recommend getting one from a source with a good stay alive guarantee. This is one fairy wrasse in particular that seems to be very susceptible to swim bladder issues, probably collection issues. In an attempt to create a group of 5 I went through probably twice that many and most of those losses were doing the death circles, or couldn't get up off the bottom of the tank.

I cannot agree with Jacob D more.

Rhomboids are one of the more sensitive fairy wrasses and the males, especially the larger ones, do not take shipping very well.

i've seen and experienced many many large male rhomboids die from swim bladder disorders and shipping stress. they look fine fresh from shipment but will start breaking down in a few days and develop sores and swelling around the swim bladder area.

acquiring a good and healthy specimen is key for this species and getting them from a good source is a great idea.

the smaller females adapt much better and seldom come in with problems from my experience with handling many rhomboids in the past.

but once they get past the initial problems, they will make extremely hardy and beautiful additions to any tanks.

good to know Lemon. Liveaquaria/divers den is usually one of the top online retailers in terms of that. They quarantine the fish before even putting 'em on the website, so that much is good.

Great fish, we had no issues with ours. I think from what I had read is that you may want the Labout's to go in first

Personally I prefer the Linatus
Rhomboid

Awsome fish. I purchased a pair from DD a month ago, and had the female jump. I'm hesitant to replace her because of the price.

you're suggesting the Labouti first? Is it because of aggression issues towards the labouti if it's added as a newcomer?
