Ric fragging with string?

Is it possible to frag a ric/morph/rhodactis by tying a piece of string/rubberband across the coral in half? It wouldn't cut the coral or anything. It would just apply some pressure onto the coral. I was thinking that over time the pressure would make the coral split on its own where the piece of string or rubberband was.

I had heaps of morphs down the bottom of my tank, a little neglected, and sometimes pieces of rubble would squish them or sit on some, and eventually they would split themselves. I could never get any of my shrooms to split on their own without a rock squishing them or cutting them. They just grow and grow and grow! One of my fluffy rhodactis' is the size of 2 of my hands!

Has anyone tried this? I don't want to cut any of my rics just incase, and I know they're very hardy when it comes to propogation, but I just wanted to see if anyone has tried this string method?

Yes. I have used a rubber band to do it. Not to tight though. It may damage the Ric to the point it will doe.

i know most people frag/cuts per head/branch but come just cuts a piece of the 'petal' , not sure though w/c process heals faster. i also heard as long as you don't cut the 'eye' it should be ok..
