Ricks 450 in wall

I have been poking around here for quite some time in awe of everybodys tanks, so I decided to jump on the large tank band wagon. I have been in the hobby for about 3 years and I started out with a 24 gallon nano that my wife bought me for my birthday. that soon turned into a 90 gallon reef and then when my local fish store went under I bought his 260 gallon display tank. I have had the 260 running for about a year when a local reefer decided to sell his 450 gallon ATM acrylic tank. Needless to say I jumped all over it. Here is a pic of the tank.

Well I bought that tank about a month ago and my wife and I decided that we were going to put the tank in a wall.

and to be more specific

The other side of the tank is where my laundry room is. I am not sure the demmensions but it is big enough.

I know that there is only one machine. My wife told me that if I was going to take most of her laundry room away that I had to buy her a new washer and dryer set with steam. Well after a little online shoping and a trip to RC Willey we brought this machine home. It washes, drys, and steams. it runs off a 110 and doesnt need a dryer vent. The best part is that it doesnt take up much room at all.

Let the construction begin!!!!!!!!!

I really like the shape of the tank, how it'll come out of the wall like that. Can't wait to see it up and running.

I love the shape too. It looks great in that location, just perfect. I have some questions:

What are the dimensions of the tank?

Are you going to add overflows? I don't see any in the pics.

What exactly did your friend use to buff out the scratches?

What are you going to use for flow?

The tank is 96x36x30 tall not accounting for the angle of the tank. As for over flows I have a guy coming over today to take some measurements and stuff to build my over flows. Not sure yet how they will be. I was going to hear his opinions. As for the scratches Im not sure what he used I just let him work. I know that he has done quite a few tanks without any problems yet so I'm not to worried. As for flow i have 3 vortec MP40w's. I am looking for one more. My return pumps will only be large enough to keep up with the overflow. Im trying to keep the tank as quiet as possible and as energy efficient as possible. I was using a hammerhead on my last tank and it was pulling a costant 400 watts of power. the vortecs only pull 30 a peice at max.

I have used acrylic tank that I need to buff out. That's why I was asking.

I plan on using powerheads too, but with a lower budget I'm going with Koralia Magnum 8. The difference in operating costs is staggering.

What type of corals and fish are going to put into the tank?

I will find out what he used and get back to you. as far as corals I am going to keep mainly sps and lps but im the type of person that buys what I buy for the looks and not the name so we'll just see. as far as fish I want to keep a bunch of tangs. Not sure yet which ones or how many. I ordered an atb med cone skimmer with the airstar pump and it should be here by the end of the week. I also have my sump and fuge being built and they should be ready by the end of the week.

it looks like it is coming along very nicely, very well done, post pics once it has been painted and complete....
thank you. I will keep it as updated as possible. I am in the process of ordering all of my equipment right now. I will post pics when I get everything.

Nice looking build so far. I just sunk a 265g in the wall a yr and a half ago and love the look of it. Keep us updated with pics. :)

Looks fantastic, congrats on the upgrade!!!

I agree that the placement of the tank is perfect...looks like the tank was custom made for that wall! Love all the pics....keep 'em up! Nice new washer/dryer/steamer/cleaner... Does it iron and fold too? ;)

It appears that hes using a pneumatic buffer.

FWIW James at Envision acrylics recommended this company to me for acrylic scratch removal a while back, and they're fantastic: http://www.etr-inc.com/

Very awesome build and very awesome that your wife is so into it with you!

I have to sell everything tank related!

Good Luck! and Enjoy the ride!!!

I got some new toys.
Here is my fuge. Hopefully I will be able to pick up my sump on monday.

I got 3 vortecs. Bought one new and the other were used for a very short while. I bought both of them from a guy in the used equipment forum. As soon as I have a little more money I will pick up one more.
FISHBUILD006-6.jpg

I will run 8 36" t-5's horizontally on the tank. I only had 2 before so I had to buy 6 more. Here are the reflectors. sorry but no pics of the bulbs and ballast yet.

Last but not least my new skimmer. ATB Cone with the airstar pump. I cant wait to hook this thing up. My friend Shane (Sdietz) has one and it works great for him.
