Ricks 450 in wall

Hey thanks for the compliments. I really like the fact that I have been able to be so involved with the design of this tank. I just bought 3 new 400 watt ballast and traded 2 of my vortecs for 2 6201 tunzes so now that I have more light and a ton more flow I am going to start stocking the tank with sps.

it was in post number 57.

thats one amazing looking tank. loving the location and the trim work around it too.

Thanks for the compliment. It was alot of fun to build. I have had tanks in the past but I really liked being able to have my hand in every part of the design and set up on this tank. I will soon post an updated photo log with my current stock list.

Great looking build! I love way you build it into the wall; it looks like it was built with the house. Good Look!

Thanks, I knew that I wanted a large tank but unfortunately My house is'nt very big so I had to get creative. We were able to do it without taking up much living space.

Here are a couple of pics that I took today of the tank.

sorry the tank is so dirty. As you can see in picture one I am having a problem with cyano, does any one have any advice? Thanks in advance.

Before finding a resolution in Chemicals (which a lot of people do, but I don't particularly like), one of the few things you can do is to systematically suck up the Cyano's with a hose and repeat this (at least daily) until you see the Cyano's disappear.
I know; this is a lot of work but eventually you'll win the fight!

I had cyano issues in my 450g and added about 10,000gph worth of flow and about 300 cerith, 200 tongan nassarius snails...and the problem is gone in all except a few small spots.

Thats what I was thinking of doing. Im just lazy and was hoping for an easier way. :spin2:

I am running 3-400 watt metal halides on vertex ballast. I am running 2-400watt 12 k reeflux on the outsides and 1-400watt 15k bulb in the middle. I am also running 6-4 foot t-5's for actinics. As far as other equipment I keep it pretty simple. I am running 2-6201 tunzes and 4-6101 tunzes for flow along with my return pumps. I am running a med atb skimmer with the upgraded airstar pump. I'm just dosing 2 part as of now.

Hey just ran across your tank build,
what equipment are you running?
Lighting?

Very nice:thumbsup:

I think that I do need more snails. My crabs seem to kill them as quick as I add them though

Love the placement of the tank - nice work! Good luck with the cyano - I'm currently fighting that myself - I overfed and not enough water changes... to be rectified now.

Beautiful build!! How difficult do you find it in trying to keep up with maintainence of the tank, being that you have such a large canopy sitting on the front of the tank? You also have access via the back of the tank?
