Well I have a tank at home, now I need one at work. So I bought a 6 Gal Nano Cube. It's been running a little over a week now. The sand was from a friend's tank and the water came out of mine. I don't have alot of plans for it so far but open to any ideas. Especially DIY mods, I love to tinker.

Here is the first pic:

What do you think?

I did add a maxijet 1200, but I think it was too much.

Now that's flow in a nano. How big is your BioCube?

i also did the maxijet 1200 in mine but its fine for flow. i do use the real wide flat nozzle, not sure if that helps any. i would suggest getting the overflow attachment for yours. i am running the jbj 12 gallon and lps love it. ive got a few brains, bubble, frogspawn, and even a few sps and they all love it. granted the sps are just digitata, and birdsnest they are growing but they lost all color and are now brown.

Yeah but mine is half that size. I bought one of those hydor water deflectors. The one that spins to create a wave effect. Did you do anything with lights on yours?

not on this 12gallon. the lighting is perfect for what i want. i was looking into the biocube protien skimmers stephen got in that will fit in it. i really don't need it as i have no bioload in the tank. i don't even have to wipe the glas down but once every couple weeks as it is. i di like the hydors but the maxi 1200 kept blowing it apart

rick i would not go to a maxi 1200 i would probly do a 900 since it is only a 6 gal i put 1200 on mine at store and i think it does goood chad sorry to hear that the rotater thing blowing apart bring it to me and ill see about replacing it if you want to

thanks stephen but thats okay it was one jimmy used a while back and it was allready on its last leg. so i just pitched it. i did like it alot on the stock pump.

Thinking about these tanks for a while now, have you given any thought to the various skimmers available for these setups? Some tanks come with airstone driven models (less desirable in my book) or no skimmer at all. Thoughts?

yeah i have messed around with the shimmers mike dont really like them. if you have big tank u can steal water from it to do water change on small tank. also i have done a couple of water changes with the nurti sea water we sell from wide world imports. works good also i try to get everyone to start tank with it cause cycle time is nothing. sand, rock, water, all come kinda cycled and with in 3 or 4 days have fish in them yall keep on reefin lol

a skimer is not worth the hassle in a small tank. its to easy to do a 50% water change. i have a current fission skimmer made for the nanos and its junk. the one made by oceanic seemed nice but for the money i would just do water changes.

Rick,

How is that deflector working. I am thinkng of putting one on my 29 Gal. Biocube, i would like a little more random flow in there and I don't want to a power head.

I think it would work better in a slightly larger tank. It doesn't have enough room to spread out the flow in my little tank. Plus it really decreases the flow. I put the original outlet back on.

If you want to try it let me know, I'll meet you somewhere.

Rick
