Ricordea mounting..

Dissy

I have a tiny Ricordea (well two) roaming around the tank folded in half - one I still haven't gotten a hold of - it's way under a rock somewhere. The other, I finally got, and put on a piece of rock rubble, and covered it with netting. But, it's folded in half (mouth up). Will it unfold on its own, and start to stretch out? I tried to open it before I put it on the rock, and failed - too slimey.

They were just tossed in a bag and sealed; not mounted, no indication of what they were.. I figured it out from digging around Google..

Any other ideas on what I can do? It's really cute.. :/

My assumption is that it's still alive, because the mouth is very much neon green colored..

i have heard that you should put them in a small tupperwear container filled with rubble and the ric will eventually attach. it hasnt worked for me. I put a tiny tab of glue on a small rock and then glue the pic to it. just a very small bit of glue. my rics have done fine this way.

A deli cup with larger sand rubble... Basically just a calmer place for it to get a chance to attach to something, then glue the attached piece to something larger...

I put mine in a little transparent container (a hummus container to be exact) and filled it with rubble rock and put two egg crate pieces on top to allow some flow. it was like that for about a week or so and my ricordeas attached to some rubble. Then I had to glue the rubble down.

Yeah... Mine busted out of its little dish. (It was tiny)

I can see it deep inside the hole of a large rock. My *assumption* is that it's still alive, since it still glows at night.. And if it's still alive, maybe some day it will work it's way out.

True, or false?

I would probably try to get it out of the hole and have it settle on top of the rubble. It should be getting exposure to light. If it is all scrunched up and folded, it is either being hit by too much flow, constantly being moved, or not getting enough light.

It gets exposure to light. The hole is on top of my largest piece of rock. Unfortunately there's nothing I can get in there to lift it out. Tried wooden skewers, tweezers, a turkey baster.. Been there for about 3 weeks now.. Maybe a little longer. I also have no urge to shatter my largest rock - it makes a perfect , and there's a maxi mini carpet anemone that lives on it.

Any other ideas?

If it has been there for 3 weeks, it probably has a foot hold on that rock/hole. if it doesn't like the location they can let go of the rock they are on and relocate themselves. Keep an eye on it and don't bother it anymore.

I haven't bothered it.. I just thought it was odd that with the blue lights on, it still looks fully alive, and like it's actually grown in the hole. I managed to get a pic of it - hoping it comes out before it gets too big. If you look close, you can see the mouth as well.. I call it my little rockordia. :/

I do it all the time. at home, and for the LFS.

some glue on the frag plug or rubble or whatever, and place ric on top. Let it sit in a container with seawater and no flow for a like 20 mins, then place in low flow area.

you just want a "temporarily" hold between the ric and the rubble .. within a day or so it will attach itself to the rubble ...

I hope you're right.. I managed to get it out of the rock.. It's definitely larger than it was when I got it... All I had to mount it to was a new piece of rock, so hopefully that will work out. The glue won't stop it from growing?
